Tavy Relays
Thursday 17th July saw a large group of ORC’s arriving in Tavistock to take place in the annual Tavy Relays. Clubs, local businesses and any groups of four running friends can take part in the event which sees each member of the teams of four people sprinting the 1.1 mile course. The route takes place by the riverside setting in Tavistock and is always a popular event with a great atmosphere.
The teams that did particularly well were the Vet Club Men 60 consisting of Paul Carter, Steven Sincock, Ian Ripper and Paul Evison who completed the four loops in a combined time of 27:31. The Vet Club Women 45 completed the four loops in a time of 28:25 and the speedy team were Claire Watkins, Sarah Marvin, Lu Walsh and Rachel Russell.
It was a fantastic evening for the ORCs who are grateful to Rob Hicks and Jo for their organisation of so many people: fortunately, Jo enjoys a spreadsheet!
It’s Grim Up North
Pearl Barnes has been on her travels again. This time she was returning to her
birthplace of Leeds for the “It’s Grim Up North” Sir Titus event which offers a range of
distances along the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Pearl wanted her first Vet 60 event to
be in West Yorkshire and opted and opted for the 10km distance. Pearl achieved a
time of 1 hour and 17 seconds (Pearl said she stopped to take photos) and reported
to have enjoyed the event, the only grim thing about it was the weather. Well done,
Pearl!
Cto50k
The Cto50k programme concluded this weekend. After 45 grueling weeks the
runners completed over 50k on the Devonshire Heartland Way. This route runs
between Crediton and Okehampton. An east-to-west route across Devon, it uses
ancient footpaths, bridleways and some minor roads. The route takes in Yeoford,
Colebrook, North Tawton and Sampford Courtenay. There were eight runners
completing the challenge; a mixture of experienced ultra athletes as well as new
athletes at this distance. Our Club Coach, Robert Richards who developed this
programme is very proud of the achievements for the programme over the past two
years and hopes all those who participated in any of the distances uses the
challenge as a springboard to further enhance their own personal goals. Runners
today from the club are; Izzi Davison, Claire Thompson, Mary Roberts and Peter
Rossitter. The group were also joined by two guest runners as well as some club
members who ran with them on a couple of the legs. A big welcome support from Lu
Walsh and her husband Chris who followed the group around handing out food and
drinks. Well done everybody for a fantastic achievement.
