TCS Amsterdam Marathon

Joanne Page was the lucky winner in a Mizuno competition for a VIP trip and marathon place in Amsterdam Marathon which she completed in 3:32:14.

The course in Amsterdam is known for its flat, fast and historical character. The start and finish take place in the historical Olympic Stadium. Every year this leaves an unforgettable impression, thanks to the presence of the supporters in the tribunes and the marathon grandstand. The route of the Marathon follows part of the course of the Olympic Games in 1928 alongside the Amstel River, stately mansions and windmills. This rural trail offers beautiful views and gives an impression of the enormous activity that rules the Amstel every day. The TCS Amsterdam Marathon is a World Athletics Platinum label road race that for years has had one of the fastest courses in the world. In the ranking of marathon cities Amsterdam is in 4th place.

Run Fit Run 5

This was the inaugural running of the Run fit, Run 5. A five mile race from the Pump and Pedal at Prewley (Sourton) with an entry of 200. Taking in views of Dartmoor and crossing Meldon viaduct this was a fast out and back 5 miler along the Granite Way. Runners found the outward run to the top of the tunnel wasn’t too bad but heading back to the finish was much harder with runners fought having to fight against wind.

Results below:

Luke Stannus 28.07 – 2nd overall and 1st U18
Carol Latham 48.07
Ray Latham 37.43 – 1st M60
Rob Kelly 29.32 – 6th overall and 2nd M40 and ORC Club record.
Paul Evison 38.12

Couch to 5K Update

Appropriate goal setting is key to success at whatever level runners are at in their running career and finding motivation to achieve the end goal is essential. It is not always about competing in races. The Couch to 5K group are well over half way through the programme, all members having supported each other to pass this point and are now working towards the 5K grand finale on 10th November.

Scorrier House Twilight Run 5k and 10k

Our canine friends often give us a reason to get out and run and this week two members have run races with their dogs which is allowed in some organised events.

Carole Loader and Keeley Philips ran with their dogs to enjoy a spooky Halloween themed head torch run in the grounds of Scorrier House. A Purple Gecko event, fancy dress was encouraged but was not essential making it a lot of fun. Carole ran the 10k and Keeley the 5k.

Bob Graham Round leg 3 and 4

Bob Graham Round is a popular round route in the Lake District notorious for its challenging terrain especially to those who try and attempt to complete it all within 24 hours. Simon Partridge set out on a solo expedition to complete leg 3 and 4 of the route. Not sure where he found the motivation to do this but it was certainly a tough goal set. Parts of this route takes in much of the roughest ground in the Lakes and it is stated “you need the fell craft of a goat to keep up a good pace.” Leg 3 is the longest section of the round and many would consider it as two good days’ walking out on the fells.

Leg 3 15.2 Miles (24.46 Km)2024 Metres of ascent.  Leg 4 10.26 Miles 16.51Km 1477 Metres of ascent Race that for years has had one of the fastest courses in the world. In the ranking of fastest marathon cities, Amsterdam is in fourth place. Choose the full marathon, half marathon or 8K and finish in the legendary Olympic Stadium.
