As the sun set over the Lake Viaduct at Sourton 25 runners set off up Sourton Tor in the last of the four summer fell races organised by Okehampton Running Club. From the start line in the Bearslake Inn car park the runners hit the ‘out and back’ off road track up Sourton Tors, ascending 900ft.
At just over 2.5 miles, the battle was on for first place which saw James Best retain his 2014 Sourton Tors title coming in at 20:09 with Will Lamerton (Okehampton RC) hot on his heels to take second place at 20:13. A similar battle ensued for 3rd and 4th place with Duncan Taylor coming in at 20:57 and James Jackson at 21:01.
Robin Carter was the first lady back at 25:35 with Rebecca Pickering (29:24) and Frances Beckett (30:02) coming 2nd and 3rd. A special well done goes to Freya Acdred who choose this grueling Dartmoor scramble as her first EVER race!
Up from an attendance of 15 last year, with 18 of the runners travelling from other clubs and places outside of Okehampton (even a visiting runner from Hull!) the last of the summer fell runs organised by Okehampton Running Club was a great success!
