Juniors

ORCJ is a friendly athletics club open to children aged 8 years and older. We train in the 3 main athletic disciplines: running, throwing and jumping. In a typical week we will focus on any 2 of the disciplines. Each session begins with a warm up activity, a game or two, and then running, throwing or jumping. We usually finish with some relay races.

We meet at Okehampton College on Thursdays at 5pm (term time). From Easter until October we train outside on the college sports field. Through the winter we train in the college sports hall.

Sessions cost £2.50 each and fees are paid half termly through OCRA.

Some of our members participate in Devon Open Athletics meetings, Westward League Cross Country, Sports Hall athletics, local fell races and parkruns. Our biggest attended event is the Tavistock Athletics Club 4 x 1mile relays held every July.

Pathway to Running Group

This group is for junior members of Okehampton Running Club who are year 7 or above. It provides a 45 minute structured running session for older children who want to focus on their running but who may not be ready for the main club session. We do sprint, hill, tempo and endurance sessions leaving from Okehampton college at 4pm on Tuesdays (term time).

For any information on the junior groups please contact the coach, Rob Hicks, by email: roberthicks@hotmail.co.uk. Children are always welcome to come and try a session or two and parents are free to watch or leave as they prefer.
