Exeter City Community Trust Half Marathon & Couch to 50k

Exeter City Community Trust Half Marathon

This weekend saw the return of the popular Exeter City Community Trust Half Marathon. Here runners enjoy a scenic route along Exeter’s historic Quayside and around the Riverside Valley Park. Spread over two days, there is a choice of the competitive Saturday race or the more relaxed Sunday event. Each race saw over 300 runners taking part.

Eddie Kingdom was the sole ORC running Sunday’s event. The race should have been two loops, however due to flooding, it became three shorter loops with a frustrating and energy sapping headwind adding to the challenge. Eddie finished in a time of 1:38:37, and he said that although this was not his quickest time over the distance as he is currently training for a triathlon, he still came in 19th overall and 2nd in his age category. Great running Eddie!

Couch to 50k Group Training Run

On Sunday morning, the Couch to 50km half marathon group took to the hills on a trail experience that allowed them a dress rehearsal for their upcoming half marathon event. The group are now halfway through the training phase and are slowly building skills, confidence and conditioning for the final challenge on 10th March. The weather this weekend was wet, but the group found a weather window allowing them to stretch their legs on the long climb to Great Links Tor before dropping below the clouds for a long run along the Rattlebrook railway with a detour up Great Nodden. An enjoyable morning was had by all, embracing the wet and boggy underfoot conditions with a bit of mist and rain from above!

If there are any runners who are not currently members of the club and would like to join in the training for the Half Marathon to Marathon (and beyond) training please contact Rob at coaching@okehamptonrunningclub.com.
