The Easter weekend was quiet for running, although it was off to a busy start on Good Friday with 7 ORC’s heading to Exeter to take part in the Fast Friday 10k. This event is billed as an exhilarating 10km run along the beautiful River Exe and Exeter Quay. The fantastic route offers participants a traffic-free and fast-paced experience, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable run.
Due to the recent heavy rain and the amount of water on the course the organisers were forced at the last minute to opt for Plan B, with the proposed 2 lap course changed to a 4 lap course, using the 5k Summer series route.
Conditions were not ideal for running well, and a strong headwind for the last 1k of each lap didn’t help, but the runners were fortunate to only have a couple of showers.
Andrew Vernon was the first ORC home in a time of 40:14 followed by Claudine Benstead in 42:26 giving her 2nd place in her age category. They were followed by Paul Evison in 49:27 gaining a new club V70 record, just beating his old record by 14 seconds!
Ged Fitzgibbon finished in 52:10, Jackie Osborne Dawes in 53:56, Kate Wilson in 56:46 and Jane Richardson in 1:04:35 – well done to all.
