Night on the Edge & Couch to 50k

Night on the Edge

There weren’t many races this weekend, but sole ORC Ian Ripper took on the Night on the Edge half marathon at Edgecombe on Saturday night.

This race is part of the Wild Night Run Series with 10k, half marathon and 5k night runs on a spectacular part of the SW Coast Path from Cremyll at Mount Edgcumbe, through Cawsand and on to Rame Head Chapel.

It’s a scenic but challenging course, especially in the dark. The runners were fortunate that it was lovely running weather and a nice trail. Although well marked Ian did get lost (only once!) and came home 1st V60 and joint 4th place overall in a time of 1:57.

Couch to 50k

Although it is mainly what we report on, ORC isn’t just about racing. There are many members of the club who just enjoy running, and being part of the club gives them camaraderie and encourages them with their personal goals.

Coach Rob Richards ran the popular Couch to 5k this September, but with a difference, billed as ‘Couch to 50k’. At the end of the 9-week session these members, and anyone else in the club were invited to take the next step of 5-10k.

This programme has been going well with the last training run taking place on Sunday, giving the group guidance and techniques to increase the distance they run. This session will end with a 10k run around the ring road on Sunday 7 January.

Following this the next 9-week session is for the 10k – Half Marathon distance which is commencing on Tuesday 9 January. If there are any runners who are not currently members of the club and would like to join in the training for this or for the Half Marathon to Marathon (and beyond) training please contact Rob at coaching@okehamptonrunningclub.com
