ORC Members have been out in force this weekend as there were a few events on the race calendar.
Westward league Cross Country, Plymouth
Congratulations go to the ORC’S representing the club in Plymouth on Sunday. Paul Crease came 2nd Male Vet45 across the series and the Vet team of men picked up 2nd in the series as well. Well done to the ORC’s across the categories for getting out about in Cornwall and Devon and doing our club proud.
Hameldown Hammer Half Marathon
There is no doubt this is a tough, challenging race designed to be a serious test of endurance. With a total ascent of 600M it is 98% trail over grassy, rocky, and sometimes muddy tracks. There is a double ascent of the Hambledown Ridge and affords spectacular views of Dartmoor and the Tors.
Out of 150 runners’ members placings below:-
Tom Poland 15th overall, 1:52
Joe Lane 17th overall, 4th V40, 1:53
Charlie Temperley, 32nd, 2:06
Will Seviour, 66th, 2:23
Jo-Anne Turner, 92nd, 2:32
Karen Vallance, 93rd, 2:32
Hannah Susorney, 133rd, 2:56
Troodos Geopark Trail Race in Cyprus
Jo Page ran the 12k Miners Trail which was a mixture of muddy trail tracks and snow, all with breathtaking mountains views. It was hilly course with over 1100ft of elevation.
She crossed the line as 1st female, official times not yet published.
Clevedon Salthouse Fields Park Run
Sometimes the joy of running is far from winning or running fast as Karen King demonstrated this weekend. The King family were away for a few days and decided to run local parkrun Clevedon Salthouse Fields. It was Karen’s first run after a nasty injury 8 months ago. Sticking to her rehab plan of walk running every 2 minutes son Ollie decided to make sure his mum stuck to her plan and ran with her whilst her husband Paul ran on his own.
Paul came in at 24:57, Ollie pipped mum to the post at 34:10 and Karen 34.14. Karen was very pleased with her first run back and to make it round injury free. Onwards and upwards Karen.
Exeter 10K
The last race to report is the Exeter 10K with two ORC runners taking part. The race started at the Quays running two loops down and back along the canal. There was a strong head wind going out but at least that meant the return legs were easier. John Binns finished with a provisional time of 47.55.
