Tavy 7 & Lighthouse Marathon

Tavy 7

Tavistock Athletics Club’s long-standing 7 mile road race is on its third course since it started in the late 1980’s. Now held on Dartmoor on an undulating but fantastically scenic course. It starts at Plaster Down on the western edge of Dartmoor and goes past Pew Tor and the hamlet of Samford Spiney. The whole race is on narrow tarmac country roads apart from the start/finish itself which was in a field. On the day the rain fell before the race but not during, leaving a stunning rainbow for runners There was a medal for each finisher. Five ORC’s turned out for the race. Congratulations go to all who ran and results are as follows.

Andrew Vernon – first ORC home and 5th in his age category 49.20
Jo Page – 3rd in age category 50.23
Ged Fitzgibbon – 4th in age category and new club record 1.00.32
Sarah Fast 1.13.44
Karen King 1.21.08

Lighthouse Marathon

Organised by Bys Vyken Events the lighthouse marathon is a notoriously muddy, sandy and rocky route with 400ft of elevation. Claire Jessica Grub chose this longer race over the local Tavy 7. She completed the Marathon distance in a time of 5hrs 47 mins 20 secs, coming 7th woman/40, 46th overall/152. She stated the mud, clambering and jumping was a lot of fun as the sun came out and it was a great course and fun event.
