Race the Light & Westward League XC

Race the Light

This week, Claire Watkins and Jo Page headed to Mothecombe for Outer Edge Events’ Race the Light. For the first time, they were offering a new trail half marathon alongside their popular woodland trail 8.5 miler.

The half marathon is a beautiful trail route taking in the woodland tracks alongside and above the Erme Estuary through the private Fleet Estate before heading onto an undulating section of the South West coast path and then crossing the freezing cold Erme Estuary on the way to the finish. The 8.5 miler crosses the Erme Estuary twice so they have wet feet from the beginning before heading on a looped course around the woodland tracks above the Erme Estuary. It was a gorgeous, sunny day though conditions were tricky in places with wet, muddy, slippery tracks where the sun had been and icy, hard, slippery tracks where it hadn’t! Claire said that this is all part of the fun, however!

Both Claire and Jo did brilliantly with Jo the first finishing female coming in at 1 hour and 9 minutes and Claire finishing second female in the half marathon with a time of 1 hour and 58 minutes. Fantastic results!

Westward League Cross Country

Not content with this achievement, Jo was then competing in Exeter on Sunday 3 rd to represent the club in the Westward League, part of the Devon County Championship cross country in Exeter. Jo was pleased to come away with winning gold in the V35 category. Jo was joined by Sophie Luxton, Richard Davies, Joe Lane and Stuart Page. Sophie had a strong run and finished 7 th in a very competitive Under 20’s race. Richard came 46 th , Joe was 109 th and Stuart came in at 124 th .
